Pastoral care

Pastoral care and prayer facilities

Our pastoral care staff is part of the hospital team that cares for you during your stay.

We recognise that times of stress can evoke deep questions, strong reactions and emotions. To help with these feelings, you may find it helpful to speak with someone from pastoral care.

Our pastoral care professionals offer a unique service of respectful listening, supporting families through transition, providing spiritual focus or sacramental support or arranging a representative from other faith traditions.

We are concerned with the whole person, which includes your physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being.

Pastoral care offers:

  • a friendly visit and time to listen to you
  • sensitivity to your concerns and wishes
  • emotional and spiritual support in times of crisis
  • sharing of joys of life and healing
  • help in times of grief and sadness
  • support when feeling anxious or fearful or when needing to make decisions
  • support when experiencing loneliness and isolation
  • compassionate listening if you wish to talk about aspects of your belief and or questions of faith
  • spiritual nourishment and support through prayer, reflection, blessing or sacraments such as Communion, and Anointing of the Sick.

We are also happy to help arrange a representative from other faith traditions.

Places to pray

The hospital chapel is located on the ground floor at the front entrance of the hospital. All patients and visitors are welcome.

Our vision and values

At Holy Spirit Northside Private Hospital we faithfully reflect the healing ministry of Jesus.

The Code of Ethical Standards for Catholic Health Care and the principle of deep respect for human life and dignity underpins our relationships, choices, discernment and decision making.

We are alert to God’s presence in fragility and illness, in relationships of family and friends, in everyday concrete experiences and in the calm atmosphere of our hospital.

Our Catholic identity and Christian tradition of affirming life, promoting justice and offering hope are expressed in religious symbols, celebrations and spaces set aside for prayer and reflection.

We are an inclusive community of people who are sensitive to and honour the faith traditions, beliefs and values of others.
