Our breast care nurses

Our specialist breast care nurses offer care and support, during diagnosis to surgery and any additional treatment or monitoring.

Our qualified breast care nurses have undergone specialist training to ensure they deliver the highest quality breast care. They work closely with other specialists, including our breast physician, oncology nurses, radiologists, pathologists, breast surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, physiotherapists and a dietitian.

The role of the breast care nurse

The role of the breast care nurse is to:

  • act as a link with all the members of your multidisciplinary team
  • co-ordinate your care throughout your entire treatment
  • explain and discuss your treatment plan with you, along with any potential side effects
  • listen to any concerns and answer any questions you or your family may have
  • visit you and explain what happens during your hospital stay, before and after surgery
  • provide you with information on breast prosthesis and breast reconstruction as required
  • refer you to other hospital and community services as required
  • ensure you are aware of what is available to you when you leave hospital
  • ensure you receive high standards of treatment in breast care nursing.

Our breast care nurse understands what you are going through and knows what you need and organises it before you know that you need it.

If you have any questions about your illness, just ask. The nurse will be there with all the support and care you need, from diagnosis to surgery and any additional treatment or monitoring.
